Mangave

KVBC SUMMER CHALLENGE 2020

Mangave ‘Mad about Mangave®’

Lavender Lady

A revolution in plant breeding! As an intergeneric hybrid, Mangave has the best of both parents: Agave’s durability and grand, architectural shapes, Manfreda’s unique colors and markings. The softer spines also come from Manfreda, making Mangave easy to handle. The Mad about Mangave® varieties are fast growers. Mangave likes a spot in full sun; this is where the colors and distinctive leaf markings come out best. The Mad about Mangave® are beautiful as a solitary in a pot or container, but also perfect for a mixed container with other succulents.

‘Lavender Lady’ is a unique, feminine beauty whose single rosette and smoky purple color are similar to Echeveria. In direct sunlight, the smoky purple leaves form at the top of the rosette and have subdued burgundy purple dots. As the rosette ages, the leaves turn green, creating a two-tone effect. Each leaf has a cinnamon brown tip. The edges are edged with small white spines; when you run your fingers through this, it feels like a comb.

Juryrapport

All assessed Mangave: innovative as a garden plant or pot plant in the Netherlands. The knowledge that these are hybrids is what makes them special. – ‘Lavender Lady’ is a handsome plant with fine dark spots on the leaves. Resembling Agave.

about the

company

"Bringing people, plants and ideas together". With this slogan, Reinier van Rijssen founded the company Plantipp more than seventeen years ago with the aim of representing and supporting breeders in royalty management, license management and label management when introducing new varieties. Meanwhile, son Peter and daughter Kim are also involved in the company and together they represent many breeders worldwide who are good for more than 250 types of floricultural products. The Plantipp team travels all over the world and is thus in direct contact with their agents abroad. This enables them to also monitor the hundreds of species that are being tested all over the world, keep a finger on the pulse and keep an eye on developments.
